Rule #1 Don't Be #2 Daniel Milstein 9781947165038 Books Reviews

To fully grasp the massive amount of wisdom, advice, and strategies for success in Daniel Milstein's impressive and attractive new book, "Rule #1 - Don't Be #2" try to imagine rows and rows of stacked books by the most successful people of the past decade, century and millennia. Now imagine trying to read through all of these books. It would probably take a lifetime. And then it would be too late to put any of your newly learned strategies to work.

Instead, Daniel Milstein has written a much easier guide to becoming a success. Milstein has written several earlier books in which he tells the story of how he was a teenager who had just emigrated from the Soviet Union in 1991 with 13 cents in his pocket and some clothes from the Salvation Army on his back. Through hard work and sheer diligence, Milstein worked his way up the ladder from a minimum wage job at McDonald's to his current position as Chairman of Gold Star Enterprises - which is involved in a number of endeavors including representing professional hockey players to financing major motion pictures and more.

Milstein says he wrote this book out of a desire to help you become a success too. "Knowing what I know," writes Milstein, "it's very frustrating -- often heartbreaking to watch people give up." Milstein writes that he wants to identify and address whatever is "blocking your own path to success. Because I know I can ignite your dream and achieve your goals". Milstein says he wanted to write a book of success stories from people who "have inspired me over the years, friends, mentors and people I hold in high regard." And by following their examples and learning from their mistakes, the author says you too can "get off the couch" and become your own dream too.

The book is packed to the brim with entertaining and inspiring stories of hard working, focused individuals, like Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg (who partnered with a college friend to start the behemoth-like social media vehicle Facebook, worth $51.5 million dollars), Dallas Cowboy coach Jimmy Johnson (who taught his players to ignore the noise of critics and went on to win two Super Bowls), Brain Surgeon and recent Presidential candidate Ben Carson (who like Abraham Lincoln read books to learn all they needed to know), Russian skier Anton Gafarov (who refused to quit in the Olympics even after one of his skis broke), and even Former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger (who went from being a top body builder to one of the hottest actors in the world to the Governor's office.

In each of these stories the lessons have a familiar ring. Do more than just what is expected....always raise the bar as high as possible...work harder and later than your competitor. At its very core, Milstein's book stresses action and proper planning as two of the most important attributes. Again and again, Milstein gives examples of how he went the extra distance to get a new account, get a promotion, start a new venture. He did what others were not willing to do and it paid off many times over.

In addition to these great stories, only touched upon, the book is filled with bright, red, full-page affirmations and reminders, like "Choice, Not Circumstance, Determines Your Success," "Dream it. Plan it. Do it." "Surround Yourself With People Who Dream Bigger Than You," "The Harder You Work, The Luckier You Get" and "Dreams Don't Work Unless You Do" and so many more.

"Rule #1 -Don't Be #2" is a fast-paced, hard-driving book that could be read in just a few sittings, but it's a book that if you take these lessons to heart can be life altering.
Daniel Milstein has never been content for second best and he doesn't want you to be either. But in the end he stresses that it is the dreamers and doers who make the world spin round every day. We fill our heads each day with self-chatter which can often be more destructive than anything else. If you follow the advice and replace that chatter tight the guides given in this book, you will succeed.
This book is a true gem, it is empowering, inspirational, ruthlessly honest, but most importantly it is probably the most outstandingly motivational book you will ever read, if you REALLY want your dream to come true.

Why? Because it’s written by a man who knows what he’s talking about. You see, in 1991, Daniel Milstein and his parents arrived in America, they were fleeing the religious and political persecution which raged in their native Soviet Union. Daniel Milstein at 16, had only 17 cents in his pocket, however even at that young age, he was richer than most, why, simply because he had a win/win mind-set, a positive outlook, guts and determination. With these assets, from that moment, although he himself didn’t realise it, he was already on his way to achieving the American Dream.

What I liked about this book is that it is so full of inspiring stories. However, this doesn’t mean his message is sugar coated, certainly not! This is a man who tells it as it is, and freely admits that his philosophy runs along the lines of a swift kick in the pants.

Throughout he insists that success lies in attitude, and action, dreaming is no good, it is futile to wait for luck to come your way, the right time, approval from others. You MUST work hard, grab those chances, and not fear failure. Should things not go well, then use the experience as a learning curve, and take a lesson from Arianna Huffington’s mother, who told her daughter (Founder of The Huffington Post) ‘Failure is not the opposite of success; it’s a steppingstone to success.’

Complacency is another very important factor Daniel Milstein covers. It is essential that you remember you can never rest on your laurels. “Success is never owned. It is rented and the rent is due every day!” is his motto. When you succeed be pleased, but don’t become content with your lot, your competitor is waiting to step in your shoes as soon as you lapse, so make sure you don’t!

Persistency is vital. Whatever your dream, go with it, and don’t give up. Should you fail the first, second, third… time then continue to persevere. He provides examples of many well-known names from the MacDonald brothers, Henry Ford, to the inspirational Jim Eisenreich, people who didn’t give up, or listen to those negative influences. Through the motivational quotes and messages strewn copiously throughout the book, the reasons why those who succeed do so, are laid out in plain sight for you to see. Be brave, think outside the box, follow that dream, and then dream bigger, and better. Remember success might not happen overnight, but if you never go for it, you can never win. So stick with it, work hard and learn from those around you and, you will make it.

Eighty-six percent of millionaires are self-made, and two thirds of the world’s billionaires made their fortune from scratch – so what’s stopping you?
Pick up a copy of this book and follow the authors guide to success, learn from him, and others then show the world just what you can achieve!
